Adoptions

WHEN YOU ADOPT…

At Huntington Animal Hospital we provide families who have adopted a cat or dog from an OSPCA or affiliate with a 10% lifetime discount on annual exams and/or vaccines*. If you are not partial to a particular breed of cat or dog, we encourage you to visit your local shelter. At Huntington Animal Hospital we work with the Lincoln County Humane Society, to care for stray and abandoned animals. Our goal is to help all animals find their forever home and prevent unnecessary euthanasia.

Enjoy some of our success stories!

Bella

At only 8 weeks old Bella suffered a traumatic injury to her right eye. Bella was seized by the Hamilton Burlington SPCA where she received emergent veterinary care. Unfortunately, after examination by an ophthalmologist at the Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Clinic, it was determined that her eye could not be saved. Bella had her eye removed and went to live with Dr. Tanya during her recovery. She never left her home.

Bobbi

When he was just a wee kitten, Bobbi found his way as a stray to the Niagara Falls Humane Society. There was something different about Bobbi, he had a bit of a swagger. Bobbi was examined at Huntington Animal Hospital for his abnormal walk. Bobbi's bloodworm and x-rays were all normal, therefore it was determined that Bobbi has cerebellar hypoplasia. The cerebellum controls balance, when underdeveloped animals have difficulty maintaing their balance and can fall easily. We fell in love with him instantly, and made him our clinic cat!

Friday

Friday was surrendered to the Lincoln County Humane Society after she fell 8 stories. Friday's extreme fall left her with a badly broken right front leg, broken ribs and bruised lungs. Friday was immediately brought to Huntington Animal Hospital for veterinary care. Friday's leg was damaged beyond repair and once her lungs healed (so she was healthy enough to undergo anesthesia) her right front leg was amputated. Friday healed without complication and has since found her forever home!

Hank

At approximately 12 weeks old, Hank was surrendered to the Lincoln County Humane Society because he was limping. Hank was examined at Huntington Animal Hospital, x-rays determined that he had fractured his right hind leg. Hank recovered from his injury with a splint and rest. He is now completely healed and found his forever home. He spends his days playing with his 3 big brothers (2 dogs and a cat).

Toaster

When Toaster was surrendered to the Lincoln County Humane Society he was thin, had a poor appetite, was drinking and urinating a lot, had a large bleeding mass on his chin and he was riddled with arthritis. We fell in love with this old man immediately. Unfortunately, because of his age and health problems he was not a good candidate for adoption. Toaster went to live with one of Huntington Animal Hospital's technicians so he could remain under our care.

Bloodwork revealed that Toaster was suffering from early kidney disease. To help support his kidneys he is eating a veterinary renal diet and receiving supplements daily. To help relieve his pain associated with arthritis he is receiving Gabapentin daily. Once healthy, Toaster underwent anesthesia and had the mass on his chin removed. The mass was diagnosed as a squamous cell carcinoma on histopathology. His chin has healed well and currently there is no sign of the mass returning.

Sami

Sami came to Huntington Animal Hospital from the Lincoln County Humane Society when she was only 6 weeks old. She was suffering from a severe eye infection that cause her right eye to become large and painful. Her right eye was successfully removed. She recovered from surgery and instantly began to play. Dr. Tanya fell in love and now Sami is a member of her family.

Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson was surrendered to the Niagara Falls Humane Society because of severe eye infections. Willie was examined at Huntington Animal Hospital and it was determined that he had entropion in both eyes (excessive skin that rolls and rubs the surface of the eye causing inflammation and infection). Willie also suffered from a chronic skin infection. Willie was going to require time to heal, medications and surgery in order to prevent recurring damage to his eyes. Dr. Tanya adopted Willie to ensure he would receive the care he needed.

Once Willie's skin and eye infections healed, he received the necessary surgery to correct his entropion at Huntington Animal Hospital. Willie recovered comfortably and quickly. Once completely healed Willie went to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA where he was adopted the same day! He found his forever home with another Cocker Spaniel.

*Offer is good for newly adopted pets and must be accompanied by original adoption paperwork from the OSPCA or affiliate. For more details please contact us. The offer applies to annual examinations and vaccines (does not apply to diagnostics, treatment, surgery or medications).
